Sustainable Jordan: the vision guiding future reality.

Jordan’s vision of the future includes concrete sustainability-focused efforts to reduce poverty and improve all sectors of society: primarily environmental, health care, human rights, inclusion, and most of all, education.

Evidence

Environmental

  • Since 2015, renewable energy’s contribution to the total energy mix has grown from 0%- 6%. [A7] (https://innovative.jo/energy/)
  • By 2025, renewable energy will constitute 15% of Jordan’s total energy production.(https://innovative.jo/energy/)
  • Jordan is located within the world’s solar belt; the country enjoys one of the highest global radiation values, with more than 300 sunny days a year.
  • Nearly 15 percent of all Jordanian households are equipped with solar water heating systems.
  • The government has implemented policies, laws, and programs to diversify the energy sources available.

Health Care

According to the World Bank, Jordan offers the best health care services in the Middle East.

  • Between 2012 and 2016, the Jordanian public health facilities assisted around 1.8 million Syrian refugees.
  • 125,000 Syrian refugee children have enrolled in Jordanian public schools.

Education

  • There are 10 public universities and 44 vocational training centers to unlock potentials.
  • Jordan launched EDRAAK, the first and leading Arab non-profit MOOC platform, to empower 10 million learners across the MENA region.
  • INJAZ – an independent non-profit Jordanian organization – aims to prepare youth to become productive members of society. Through its programs, INJAZ forges a link between the public, private, and civil sectors, bridging the skill gap between the educational system and the fast-changing demands of the labor market.

Human Rights

Jordan has made several steps to advance and overcome many issues regarding the rights of key members of society, namely workers’ rights, women’s rights, migrant workers’ rights, children’s rights, and the rights of refugees.

Women Inclusion

Jordan boasts a highly-educated female population with the potential to support and advance Jordan’s economic, social, and political status.
